a look back down memory lane pt1
five years ago I stepped into HMS. I overslept on the first day of school and had to run across the gym in front of hundreds of equally nervous little grade eights to get to Annie and Nadia, the only two close friends from elementary. The halls seemed ten times bigger than that of Homma. I got lost in the first hour and had to ask a teacher for directions back to the gym. I always avoided eye contact with two grade 12s who made-out near my locker every morning. I dreaded going to home-ec and would always go to the farthest washroom to waste class time. I looked forward to sciences humaines 8 where I sat next to Agnes, Matt, and most importantly, Jacky love. I refused to "like" Matt because he was shorter than me (sorry wappy). the dancing unit in PE 8 was nerve-racking only because we (us! little grade eights!) had the chance to be dance partners with the big grade tens. Callie and I whispered gossip to each other in the corner of the drama room during engaged reading. I laughed in the middle of "breaking up" with Harwood and at that moment, could swear I saw tears in his eyes. the kindergarten buddy surprised me by skipping school and giving me a "monthiversary" gift. my heart skipped a beat when I saw that Thomas Ng poked me on facebook. I've become close with Agnes since our nicknames angus beef & taco bell. in the mornings, Garrett and I would update each other until I hopped on the c93 at exactly 8:12. sometimes we bumped into papa lerner. it was always awkward. we spoke nothing of post-secondary plans or career goals. the end of high school seemed so far away.
