october happenings

I hardly write on this anymore because 1) I got twitter so the short one sentence posts have been moved to here 2) I just don't have much time to sit down and organize my thoughts into a coherent paragraph.  I have to think really hard about what I did two days ago because there are just so many different things happening everyday. a little update on my thanksgiving long weekend: the actual holiday was spent catching up on my readings and eating flavorless turkey in the caf (caf food just doesn't taste that great any more after a whole month and ten days). saturday I conquered the grouse grind with 5 of my floor-mates. it was difficult. I probably took 20 mini-breaks in between. I would probably need some harsh convincing to do it again. but I did it!!! in less time than what the website said the "novice hiker" would take. sunday the girls and I went on a Richmond adventure and I showed them around Steveston for the first time. its always like I'm coming home whenever I'm on that 402 bus. we had the most delish food in a long time (sorry totem caf once again) and my baby finally got its case so it was a day well spent.

over the past month, I've seen most of the people (aside from one but that doesn't really surprise me) who have, at some point, been important parts of my life. some have matured in positive ways while others have changed in ways that are disappointing. and an odd few have, surprisingly, remained the same. its nice to bump into familiar faces from all the way back since elementary and seeing that ubc is such a big campus (20 mins from totem to buch, what?!), it's always easy to avoid seeing the same faces.

school-wise, I've had three midterms so far and they've all been...meh. I still have to work on figuring out my work and study habits because a lot of times I spend hours reading materials that don't go into my brain at all. I've yet to be in a course that I'm passionate about or meet a professor who is super engaging...but it's only first semester and a lot can change.

I've started work last week. two high school volunteers and twelve elementary kids ranging from gr 4-7. a disaster waiting to happen. jk it was actually manageable and the kids listened to me but I'm almost too scared to say that the program will stay this smooth every week. its my very first job so I've got lots to learn in the coming months from both my coworkers and the kids I work with.

plus I'd like to add that the weather has been pretty damn nice. I bought an umbrella the weekend I arrived and so far its only purpose is to get rid of flies (why do y'all have to come in my window? I kill you with my econ textbook)
